Personal Notes

Happiness is my jam.  I am someone who tries to see the bright side of life and loves to make others laugh.  I can be pretty laid-back and perfectly satisfied with lazy days of board games, napping, and movies, but I also love to go on random adventures.  After grad school I plan to spend time traveling to visit friends and family, hiking, kayaking, and perhaps joining an intramural volleyball or frisbee team.

I love pets, especially dogs and cats, and I have a minor obsession with LOLcats.  If you don't know what a LOLcat is, see photo at right for a sample.  I also enjoy the zoo a lot and get a bit overwhelmed with excitement at the sight of giraffes.  I really like motivational quotes and books such as The Happiness ProjectOh the Places You'll Go, and the little inspirational story book series by Bradley Trevor Grieve that have both animal pictures and inspirational messages (double-win!).  Oh, and I am obsessed with Disney and Pixar movies.  And Law and Order SVU.

I like to think that I am a pretty genuine, easy-going person, but I am also a bit of a worrywart and perfectionist too.  I love being in the outdoors--I like to go hiking, kayaking, and camping.  I spent two months in summer 2013 in South Africa for an internship, and absolutely loved immersing myself in the culture of South Africa and exploring the country--I hope to continue traveling and have started a bucket list of countries I must see!

I get my energy from being around those who I have formed close relationships with, and from helping others.  So, I am often spending extra time supporting my students and hanging out with some of my close friends.  Being around my friends keeps me energized...and so does Starbucks.  I have been very active with Habitat for Humanity in the past, and hope to find additional community service opportunities to support different causes in my next community.
