Professional Competencies

Proficient Competence

As defined, to be described as 'competent', an individual must have suitable or sufficient skills, knowledge, and abilities for some purpose.  The National Association for Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) and the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) outlined 10 professional competencies that are needed for excellence in the student affairs profession.  The competencies NASPA and ACPA identified are:



















In this section of my Professional Competency Portfolio, I will discuss each competency in detail.  I will share provide descriptions of experiences I have to develop competence in each area, and where applicable, I will attach or link an artifact to supplement the discussion.  I have divided my competencies into 3 categories --acceptable, proficient, and exemplary-- which organize my competencies by level of competence I feel I have attained within each area.  Below is a brief outline of my analysis of my competencies.  On the accompanying sub-pages, you will find the detailed descriptions and anecdotes.
